Disney World: Hotel: Port Orleans Resort
The Port Orleans Resort is divided into two sections: the French Quarter (Mardi Gras, anyone?) and Riverside, which is a southern-ish area. The French Quarter is smaller and quieter than Riverside. It is also an idyllyic place for Downtown Disney shoppers to go!
Disney World: Hotel: Coronado Springs Resort
This is a Mexican themed hotel. It is in close proximity to the Animal Kingdom, and it's a convention hotel. The pool area is supposed to be great. Come here if you obsess over Mexico!
Disney World: Hotel: Old Key West Resort
This hotel has villas available for rent for anyone that may want to have a lot of room in a quite, Key West-ish hotel. It is also close to Downtown Disney.
Disney World: Hotel: Animal Kingdom Lodge
The Animal Kingdom Lodge is the only luxury hotel in close proximity to the Animal Kingdom. To those who love the Wilderness Lodge: It was designed by the designer of the Lodge! It has a great African theme, but most of the attention is centered at the fact that you can look from a large window at a wildlife preserve (or look from the comfort of your own room).
Disney World: Hotel: Pop Century Resort
The Pop Century is a lot like the All-Stars, except for theme. In the case of the Pop Century, it covers decades from the 50's to the 90's, showing larger-than-life objects that make us think about the era. Come here if you are not sure of which All-Star to go to, and if you are low on budget.
Disney World: Hotel: All-Star Sports Resort
The All-Star Sports is pretty much like its sister hotels (along with the fact that it is close to the Animal Kingdom), except that sports fans will love staying in a world filled with larger-than-life tennis, football, surfing, basketball, and baseball equipment.
Disney World: Hotel: All-Star Music Resort
The All-Star Music gives you the choice of staying in a jazz, rock and roll, country, calypso, or Broadway themed room. A great choice for the budget-minded, music-loving traveler!
Disney World: Hotel: All-Star Movies Resort
Note: Most of the Epcot resorts are close to MGM, so I am not listing hotels near MGM.
The All-Star Movies is one of three "All-Star" hotels, which are near the Animal Kingdom. They are among the lowest priced hotels in all of Disney World (if you do not count setting up camp at the Fort Wilderness) at 77 dollars! But don't let the price get to you: this is no Holiday Inn. They are themed with larger-than-life objects, and the only true disadvantages are: lack of food choices (only a food court), lack of sports choices (only swiming, which would be enough for me), lack of room space (they can squeeze in four), longer than average line, and a very large resort (bring a stroller if you have young children). In the case of the All-Star Movies, you have the choice of staying in the
101 Dalmations,
Toy Story,
The Love Bug,
The Mighty Ducks, and
Fantasia sections of the hotel.
Disney World: Hotel: Swan/Dolphin Resorts
These hotels, near Epcot, are the only (yes, the ONLY) hotels on-site that are not owned by Disney. They are luxurious, but is not quite as family-friendly as the Grand Floridian (avoid both if you are an easily embarrassed mom with babies and kids-look at my entry under Grand Floridian). Go only if you are traveling alone or on a honeymoon.
Disney World: Hotel: Yacht/Beach Club Resort and Villas
These Epcot hotels (in fact, as shown by this picture, is DISTURBINGLY close to Epcot!) are supposed to represent Nantucket beachside resorts. They are great hotels, and have been considered to have one of the best pools in the Disney World Complex!
Disney World: Hotel: Caribbean Beach Resort
Please note: Every hotel mentioned as an Epcot hotel has a "backdoor" entrance into Epcot, so put this in mind if planning a trip.
The Caribbean Beach Resort has good price, but it is not quite like the Polynesian. Go here if you are a bit low on bucks, and since this is an older Epcot hotel, remember to request a recently refurbished room when booking. You are situated in one of multiple islands, each one named after an island in the Caribbean (What did you expect, one of the islands to be named Iceland?!)
Disney World: Hotel: Fort Wilderness Resort
The Fort Wilderness Resort is exactly what it says it is: a hotel in the "wilderness". It is HUGE. You have the choice of either sleeping in air-conditioned cabins, camping, or (possibly) RVing. You may like the great outdoors, you may not. If you do, you may save bucks. If you don't, you are better off in the Wilderness Lodge if you want a similar setting. Good luck camping at this Magic Kingdom hotel, and have fun with the barbecues and petting zoos! Note: Ignore the Mouse Planet logo.
Disney World: Hotel: Grand Floridian Resort
Ahh... the Grand Floridian... Incredibly luxurious... Set in "Victorian splendor"... And just the thing to make parents with kids feel strange... Come here for a great hotel, and with money to burn!
Disney World: Hotel: Polynesian Resort
The Polynesian is yet another Magic Kingdom hotel, this time themed with the islands. Another popular resort, you can't go wrong with the island theme.
Disney World: Hotel: Wilderness Lodge
The Wilderness Lodge and Villas is a... Western? Native American? National Park? themed hotel, and people seem to fuss about the "awe-inspiring lobby". This is a hotel that makes many people happy, and lots of repeat visitors come here. This hotel is near the Magic Kingdom, as well.
Disney World: Hotel: Contemporary Resort
The Contemporary Resort... It is the first hotel made in Disney World (sure, contemporary), and it is one of the closest to the Magic Kingdom. It looks modern, and the monorail runs through it. It is very busy, so a family may not want to go here. I have been here, when I was very young.
